Well, here it is: The results of our latest Dudes’ Food: 2018 edition! The women in our family are wondering why we ever cook?! We should turn the kitchen completely over to the men, because I’m telling ya, this year’s Dudes’ Food was GOOD. Like fork-in-hand, smokin’ hot, lick-the-plate, stuff-your-face-with-seconds-and-thirds GOOD.
If you’re new to the blog, here’s the deal. About once a year, we hold an event we call “Dudes’ Food.” The guys in our family each cook some kind of original dish with no help from the women. We then taste them all, vote for our faves and give prizes to the winners. Sounds simple, but hey, we take this thing very seriously. There is often months of planning, scheming and recipe testing involved. Bragging rights for the next year are at stake, you know.
And so, here we present Dudes’ Food: 2018 Edition, with a quick explanation of the winning dish. Patrick (Sarah’s husband) was the overall winner, with wayyyyy more votes than any other dish. We promise, there was no favoritism. No lie…Pat’s dish, which he named “Eternal Glory Pork,” was unreal.
He first tasted something like it when he and Sarah went to Southeast Asia with Andrew and Beth (my son and daughter-in-law) a few years ago. They were way up in the Banaue rice terraces in the Philippines, at an off-the-beaten-path resort that a local had recommended. It was off-season, so they had the resort entirely to themselves.
The owner offered to make them some food, which turned out to be this amazing sweet pork dish. They devoured it and tried to get the recipe, which was completely lost in translation with the language barriers. They came home, and Pat has been trying to replicate it ever since…
We think he has done it. His “Eternal Glory Pork” has got to be tasted to be believed. It is DIVINE. Eternal Glory could possibly be at stake here. It’s that good.
To say we were impressed with this years’ entries is an understatement. There wasn’t a bad dish in the bunch. Standing ovations to all the guys who participated. Bragging rights all around. And so, may we present Dudes’ Food: 2018 Edition…
