Hold up your hands. Count your fingers. One to ten. That’s all you need…just ten simple things, most of which don’t take much time, to drastically improve your energy, lighten your mood and brighten your entire day.
If you find yourself in a life slump at the moment, never fear. We gotcha. It’s all right here. Take a deep breath, count to ten. Here we go…….
10 DAILY HABITS that will improve your life!
ONE 30-40 minute session of exercise (cardio + weight-bearing) ~ Get that bod movin’ on the daily! (Give yourself *at least one rest/recovery day.) Just 30 minutes will completely change how you feel throughout the rest of the day. *Listen to your body. If you’re doing high-intensity workouts, you may need more than one rest day.
TWO hours of no screen time (At least one of these hours should be before bed) ~ Can you do it? How addicted to your phone are you? No texts, social media, don’t even pick it up for TWO full hours. Every day. You’ll see…it’s kinda refreshing to unplug. It’s, might we even suggest, addicting.
THREE meals plus three healthy snacks throughout the day ~ Eat right and eat enough! Did you know that most women don’t eat enough calories? (1,400 calories a day is the recommended calorie intake for a THREE YEAR OLD. You are not three. You need more calories than that girlfriend.) Not that we need to be counting calories here BUT eating right and eating enough will keep you powering through it all. Stock up on veggies, fruit, lean protein, whole grains, and then EAT! Oddly enough, you might just find that you’ll lose a few pounds. Weird.
FOUR compliments to others ~ It’s tough to be grumpy when you are serving someone else. Just four little compliments will brighten their day AND yours! (Just try telling the cashier at the grocery store that she looks pretty/you love her sweater or hair/etc., and watch what happens to her countenance! Her work day just got a little less tedious because of your little compliment.)
FIVE minutes for daily journal writing ~ Bullet journals are a big deal right now! Spend just a few minutes recording your thoughts and feelings. Look at Pinterest for loads of easy journaling ideas. Ten years from now, you’ll be so grateful you did it…and your kids will LOVE reading about your “previous” life. 😉
SIX minutes of daily scripture study or meditation ~ A personal moment of reflection and spirituality in the morning can set the tone for your entire day.
SEVEN to eight hours of sleep ~ This one might be the toughest on the list for a lot of people. It’s a proven fact: Enough sleep changes EVERYTHING.
EIGHT glasses of water ~ Fill up a pitcher and keep it in your fridge. Add some lemon or lime slices to jazz it up and give yourself added health bonuses like detoxing your liver and increasing your energy. Your body will thank you. Try and drink half your body weight in ounces (minimum!). For example, if you are 140 lbs., you should try and drink at least 70 oz. of water a day. We like to carry around a 40 oz. Hydro Flask full of water…this keeps it cold all day, and we know that if we drink two of them, we’ve had plenty of water for the day!
NINE minutes to clean up ~ It’s overwhelming to try to clean the whole house. Instead, set your timer for NINE minutes and just go hard. You might be surprised and impressed at how much you can do in such a short amount of time.
TEN (thousand) steps ~ Get up and MOVE that body! Never take the elevator. Park in the far corner at the grocery store. Rack up steps as you exercise, clean, do laundry, walk kids to school. You’ll be amazed at how easy it is to amass 10,000 as you use the car less and use your feet more!
Now, rinse and repeat. Daily. We promise, you’ll feel good. Really good.
