Your doc may roll his eyes at these, but you guys, I SWEAR by these. In the past few months, there have been a handful of times where I’ve felt a cold coming on…I do all these things, and the next day I wake up feeling fine! Maybe a coincidence? Or maybe there’s somethin to it. Very least, it’s worth a try!

#1) Elderberry Syrup

Elderberry Syrup helps to boost your immune system and fight off colds and the flu. When I feel a cold coming on, I take 2 tsp. 2-3x a day. It is not advised to take while pregnant, but I’ve been taking it regularly while breastfeeding.

#2) Vitamin D and Zinc

Studies show that regularly supplementing with Vitamin D, especially during the winter months, can reduce your risk of getting a cold or flu. I love Seeking Health’s Vitamin D supplement because it includes K2, which your body needs to properly absorb and utilize the Vitamin D. I give one drop to my baby daily, and take 6 drops myself. If you’re looking for a higher dose, or prefer capsules, Seeking Health makes this capsulated version as well. It’s also a good idea to take Zinc, which has been proven to shorten the lifespan of colds. Seeking Health sells a great Zinc Lozenge.

#3 Essential Oils

Diffusing essential oils not only smells good but can also boost your immune system and help fight your cold and flu. I’m not one of those people who believe essential oils can fix all things, but I’ve found a handful of them that I really do think work. For staying healthy in the winter, I personally LOVE doTERRA’s On Guard blend. It smells yummy and can help boost your immune system, especially when ingested orally. This is the diffuser I use. It’s affordable and works great!

#4) Bone Broth

Bone Broth is packed with healthy fats, minerals and electrolytes. Sipping on steaming broth is very comforting if you’re feeling a bit under the weather, and it’s gut-healing compounds will speed recovery! I like to make my own, but if you’re not into that, I love Kettle and Fire‘s broth!

#5 Hand Sanitizer

Those grocery cart handles are swarming with germs. When you’re out running errands, it’s good to sanitize hands often, especially when your little ones are touching EVERYTHING. Most hand sanitizers contain harsh chemicals, fragrances and additives, so I love that this hand sanitizer contains safer ingredients. And bonus…it smells AMAZEBALLS.
