I can’t tell you how often I hear the words, “I can’t make gravy.” Second only to “I can’t make rolls.” (Here’s your solution to the latter problem…)

But really, gravy is one of the easiest things about a Thanksgiving meal. This one uses all the yummy flavors from our turkey-and-veg drippings, and doesn’t go through a lot of complicated steps like some recipes.

So here goes….How to Make the Perfect Turkey Gravy in FIVE simple steps:

1. Remove turkey from pan and pour drippings through a sieve into a saucepan. You should have 4-5 cups of liquid.

2. Heat over medium. Put a 1/2 cup or so of hot liquid in a bowl with 1/3 cup flour. Mix until smooth (really, no lumps left!)

3. Add flour into liquid very slowly, whisking constantly.

4. Add salt, pepper and Worcestershire sauce and turn heat to medium-high.

5. Cook until thickened, stirring often, about 10 minutes.

Yield: 4-5 cups

Ingredients

  • Drippings from cooked turkey to make about 5 cups
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • salt and pepper to taste (I use pepper liberally in this one)
  • 1 Tbsp or more of Worcestershire sauce
