Okay, people…here’s PART TWO of our “How-To” Thanksgiving posts. (See our first “Thanksgiving-How-To” here) How to Make the Perfect Turkey Gravy. Gravy is the nemesis of so many people. I can’t tell you how often I hear the words, “I can’t make gravy.” Second only to “I can’t make rolls.” (Here’s your solution to the latter problem…)
But really, gravy is one of the easiest things about a Thanksgiving meal. This one uses all the yummy flavors from our turkey-and-veg drippings, and doesn’t go through a lot of complicated steps like some recipes.
So here goes….How to Make the Perfect Turkey Gravy in FIVE simple steps:
1. Remove turkey from pan and pour drippings through a sieve into a saucepan. You should have 4-5 cups of liquid.
2. Heat over medium. Put a 1/2 cup or so of hot liquid in a bowl with 1/3 cup flour. Mix until smooth (really, no lumps left!)
3. Add flour into liquid very slowly, whisking constantly.
4. Add salt, pepper and Worcestershire sauce and turn heat to medium-high.
5. Cook until thickened, stirring often, about 10 minutes.
And there it is. Delicious gravy in a matter of minutes! It will go great with your Bleu Cheese and Bacon Mashed Potatoes, and of course, your perfectly roasted turkey.
Happy, Happy Turkey-Gravy-Potatoes-Stuffing-Yams and Pie Day!
