The Chocolate Chip Cookie. Are there a thousand recipes floating out there for this most traditional, beloved cookie? Maybe two thousand? Everyone has a favorite recipe. And for good reason. There’s truly nothing better than a hot-out-of-the-oven, melty, gooey chocolate chipper. And that DOUGH! I think there might be a time or two or three that I possibly ate more than half the dough before even one cookie was baked. Are you nodding your head and thinking that this all sounds a bit familiar? Are you pulling your mixer out as you read this? Well, get ready to elevate the cookie just a bit. White Chocolate Chip Cookies with Oats and Cherries is the fancy-pants cousin to the basic. When you want something just a tad different and a bit more sophisticated, here it is!
For some reason, I get more requests for this recipe than pretty much any other. I’m not sure why, but people go wild for these cookies! It’s a pretty basic recipe, but with the added punch of oats, white chocolate chips and dried cherries. Throw in some nuts and whole-wheat flour, and you’ve got yourself a winner. Think of it…literally five minutes from now, you could be stealing spoonfuls of dough and feeling pretty great about it. I mean, there are eggs, whole wheat and oats in there, right? That’s a balanced meal in a spoonful…or two…or three……..
Ingredients
- 1 ¼ cups unsalted butter, softened
- ¾ cup brown sugar
- ½ cup sugar
- 1 egg
- 2 tsp. vanilla
- 1 ½ cups whole wheat flour
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- ½ tsp. salt
- 3 cups oats
- 1/2 cup dried cherries
- 1/2 cup white chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup walnuts or pecans
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
- Cream butter and sugars.
- Add egg and vanilla.
- Add dry ingredients and blend.
- Add cherries, chocolate chips and nuts.
- Drop by tablespoons onto cookie sheet.
- Bake at 375 degrees for 7 minutes.
Notes
*If baking at high altitude, add an extra tablespoon of flour.

Yum! I’m not usually a fan of white chocolate, but I bet the smoothness of it balances out well with the tartness of the cherries.

There’s something about that white chocolate and cherry combo that is SO good! Maybe it’s the tangy and sweet thing.
These look delicious. I’d probably try it with subbing the cherries for cranberries (not a big fan of cherries). Yum!
