Frozen Banana Pops

Frozen Banana Pops are a fun, sweet treat to beat the heat! Dipped in chocolate and/or Greek yogurt and topped with nuts, coconut, chia, peanut butter, etc.
I first fell in love with Frozen Banana Pops when I went on my “senior trip” to Newport, California. It’s tradition in my high school for all the seniors (or at least a large group of them) to go on a trip at the end of senior year, and it usually ends up being Newport. It was a week full of fun in the sun, bike rides on the board walk, midnight donut runs and of course, chocolate-dipped frozen banana pops.

My only complaint with Newport’s frozen banana pops is that they cost an arm and a leg! Literally it’s like $4.50 for ONE banana. Now let’s venture to the grocery store and buy 15 bananas for that same price! Grab some wooden skewers, vanilla Greek yogurt, some chocolate chips and toppings, and you could be whipping out your own frozen banana pops in no time. The best part about these? You get to be oooober creative.

Grab the sprinkles, coconut shreds, chopped nuts, graham cracker dust…literally anything you can get your hands on…and start dipping and decorating. I seriously love when food becomes an art project (which is most the time around here haha).

One thing to note: the Greek yogurt pops soften very quickly once they’re out of their frozen tundra of the freezer. We learned that one the hard way 😉 So make sure that you’re ready to gobble it up once it’s out of the freezer. It only takes a few minutes to soften, and then eat fast!

Frozen Banana Pops

Prep Time: 15 minutes

Total Time: 4 hours, 15 minutes

Yield: 4-6

Ingredients

  • 4-6 ripe bananas
  • Semi-sweet or milk chocolate chips (Enough to cover bananas once melted. We used about 2 cups chocolate chips for 3 bananas)
  • Vanilla Greek yogurt (Enough to cover bananas)
  • Toppings such as: granola, chia seeds, hemp seeds, nut butter, coconut shreds, mini chocolate chips, graham cracker dust, chopped nuts, etc.
  • Parchment/wax paper
  • 4-6 wooden skewers

Instructions

  1. Line a baking sheet with parchment or wax paper and set aside.
  2. Peel the bananas and set aside.
  3. Melt the chocolate in the microwave in 30-second increments, stirring in between. Don't over-melt or it will begin to harden. *See notes
  4. Working with one banana at a time, gently slide onto a skewer and dip in chocolate and/or yogurt, using a spoon or knife to cover it completely.
  5. Top with desired toppings and lay on the parchment paper.
  6. Repeat with each banana until they are all dipped and decorated.
  7. Freeze for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  8. When you want to eat one, pull it out and allow to soften slightly. (The yogurt ones will soften fairly quickly, so eat them before they get too soft)!

Notes

*If you're making chocolate-dipped and yogurt-dipped pops, do the chocolate ones first right when the chocolate comes out of the microwave. If you allow the chocolate to sit after being melted, it will clump up and harden.

Saving this page for future reference. I have bananas frozen in my freezer at the moment…maybe I’ll melt some chocolate and just dip them in it.

    • Reply Sarah July 14, 2016 at 4:59 pm

Oooh, let us know how they turn out using already-frozen bananas! I’m sure they’ll work just the same.

Thanks Natalie! Haha I haven’t thought about the plate looking like Frozen, but it totally does now that I look at it again. Welp, that’s just one more reason to make these banana pops again soon…I’ll get to use my “frozen plate.” 🙂

Not only are these banana pops pretty, but they sound like they’d be delicious! Definitely going to have to make some of our own. MY son would have fun helping with this too.
