We sometimes think that the French and Italians have cornered the market on delicious European-inspired cooking. Sure, they are both incredible types of cuisine! But what about those other countries who also have amazing tastes? I mean, there’s a whole world of FOOD out there, just waiting to be tested and tried! Spanish tapas, German schnitzels, Norwegian salmon, Swedish meatballs…the list goes on and on.

Take the Swiss. If you’ve ever dipped a fingerling potato into a pot of steamy Swiss fondue, you’ll know what I mean. Oh boy, is that stuff GOOD! In my book, this recipe for Overnight Swiss Protein Muesli is another home run by the Swiss. It’s the perfect breakfast! Muesli is basically a mixture of oats, nuts and fruit, soaked in milk all night, which magically transforms it into an instant, nutrient-packed breakfast that will keep you full and happy until lunchtime. Swiss twist on granola!

We have some life-long friends whose ancestors are from Switzerland. Since my family has a strong German heritage, we joined forces years ago and created what we affectionately call “Stinky Cheese Night.” In an homage to our European roots, we pull out the Gruyere and Emmenthaler cheeses, and fill the kitchen with that strong “stinky” cheese smell as we whip up batches of Swiss fondue and raclette. It’s an epic cheese-fest which typically ends with all participants slipping into a happy food coma…

Those Swiss are definitely pretty awesome in the kitchen. And let’s not even start on the chocolate that comes from that beautiful country! Swiss cheese fondue, followed by Swiss chocolate fondue? Win-win-win-win-win! And we’re thinking that Overnight Swiss Protein Muesli might just be a nice, healthy start the next morning, when you feel like you’ve overdone things a bit at last night’s “Stinky Cheese Party!”
